Belle Meade, the beautiful meadow.

Nashville’s most storied address: grand homes on broad, wooded lots, a celebrated boulevard, and a heritage that began with a thoroughbred farm in 1807.

A legacy, carefully kept.

Few addresses in the South carry the quiet weight of Belle Meade.

In 1807, John Harding bought the land that would become Belle Meade, a name meaning “beautiful meadow.” The estate became an internationally celebrated thoroughbred farm, home of Iroquois, the first American-born winner of England’s Epsom Derby.

After the estate was divided in the early 1900s, its grounds were shaped into a garden suburb, with broad Belle Meade Boulevard as its centerpiece. The City of Belle Meade incorporated in 1938 and remains its own municipality within Davidson County, with its own city hall and police department.

Today it is a place of stately historic residences and significant new homes on generous, tree-canopied lots. It is private, gracious, and minutes from Green Hills and West End.
